College is war. Classrooms are battlefields. And we are soldiers.
There are two kinds of people who are going to read that sentence and react in different ways. The first group is Christians, and the second group is non-Christians. If you belong to either group, keep reading. This is for you.
The college campus is a dangerous place to be for anyone of any age. The education establishment is filled with hundreds of teachers, each with their own philosophy on teaching, and more importantly, with their own agenda. The classroom can easily become a place of indoctrination and propaganda. If this hasn’t been your experience in college, congratulations. But don’t think you won’t run into this problem. For the Christian reading this, you can expect your faith to be challenged regularly in ways you have never thought about before. The name of Jesus is barely even whispered, and He certainly has no place in their classrooms. Don’t be discouraged. We hope to give you the proper tools to combat the lies you experience in the classroom. You are not defenseless. If you’re not a Christian and you are reading this, please continue. We’re writing this for you too.
In our experiences, we’ve found that Christian youth, in general, know very little about the Bible, or the wide expanse that is the Christian faith. There is such a need to know! Christ warned his people to dwell constantly in His word and to be knowledgeable (Hosea 4:6). Why aren’t we doing more to educate ourselves about who Jesus is, what He did, and why He is the most important thing to ever happen to this world? If we call ourselves Christians, we need to know what that word means. We need to know the person that we take our name from. We are a community of believers and it’s so important that we know what binds us together. Friends, this is a manifesto. We want to change the world. Our words are only tools to introduce you to the vast richness of the Christian faith; a faith that has existed since eternity. We are the next generation. We carry the burden of everything that will come after us. We must be ready.
Therefore, the point in all of this is that we want to make sure that every single Christian college student is equipped to deal with the issues of his or her faith and the issues of our culture. We need to be informed on what the God of the Bible says about gay marriage, abortion, evolution, and every other issue that we are constantly faced with in our generation. Our goal is such that the next time your classmate or your professor fires off an argument against God or Christianity, or speaks in favor of abortion or gay marriage, you can stand up for the truth. You don’t have to be silent because you’re uninformed about what you believe. It’s time to be informed.
With all that being said, we want to give you an idea of what this project is about. It’s called College is War, and it’s going to be an overview of everything that we as college students think is important for other college students to know. This includes the nature of God, the Bible, Creation, Man, Sin, Jesus and Ethics. That will all be part one. Part two will basically deal with everything else. Opposing viewpoints such as atheism, postmodernism, hedonism, individualism, and consumerism. This is just an overview of these giant topics, and this is in no way intended to be an exhaustive exploration of each of these topics. Through the course of this project, we will also attempt to cover some social issues, such as abortion and gay marriage. For example, in our discussion of Man, we will talk about sexuality. Both those topics could fit in there quite naturally. That’s the plan.
Above all else, we hope to give Jesus the glory and to get people to think about the significance He has for our lives. We hope you will walk this journey with us, as we explore the ideological minefield we call college. May God bless you as you pursue knowledge with us.
Right on....right on.
ReplyDeleteHello Veritas. I was reading through past comments on my blog and I ran across your comment where you asked me to "hit you up." I've decided to take you up on your offer. Comment on my blog with your email address sometime and we can chat. (Don't worry, I'll make the comment private. You probably don't want the whole world to see your email address. lol)
